The Recklinghausen police headquarters covers the district of Recklinghausen with the towns of Recklinghausen, Herten, Gladbeck, Marl, Dorsten, Haltern am See, Castrop-Rauxel, Datteln, Oer-Erkenschwick, Waltrop and the independent city of Bottrop. This means that the Recklinghausen police headquarters, with its approximately 1,700 employees, is responsible for the safety of around 735,000 people in 11 different towns. The total area covered by the authority is 861 km².
Friederike Zurhausen has been Police Commissioner of Recklinghausen Police Headquarters since September 2012.
After completing her legal clerkship, Friederike Zurhausen joined the NRW state service in 1992 and began her career at the Münster district government. Here she worked as a personal assistant to the district presidents Mr. Schleberger and Dr. Twenhöven in the police department before moving to the NRW State Chancellery in 1999.
Since March 2001, she has worked in the Ministry of the Interior, first as deputy personal advisor to Minister Dr. Fritz Behrens, then as Head of Division for Cabinet and Parliamentary Affairs. Here she was responsible for preparing the conferences of interior ministers with a focus on internal security issues.
Friederike Zurhausen was the budget officer for the Ministry of the Interior from 2008 until she moved to Recklinghausen Police Headquarters in September 2012 and was therefore also responsible for police finances. At the same time, she was a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Police University in Münster.
