The main task of the Hazard Prevention/Employment Directorate (GE Directorate) is to deal with day-to-day operations, which are carried out by officers on duty in six permanently manned police stations. These "operational stations" are located in Bottrop, Marl, Dorsten, Recklinghausen, Datteln and Castrop-Rauxel. Major operations such as demonstrations or sporting events are also handled by the GE directorate.
In addition to the security service, there is also the district and priority service (BSD East and BSD West). The district officers are the point of contact for all citizens in their immediate residential and living environment.
The GE Directorate includes the command center and the command and situation service. The directorate is divided into police station 1 (West) and police station 2 (East) as well as the riot police/special police services division. This consists of the riot police unit and the service dog squadron.
The command center supports the head of the directorate and coordinates the tasks within the GE directorate. It is the link to the Central Tasks, Crime and Traffic Directorates and is housed in the police headquarters building in Recklinghausen.
The command and situation service consists of the organizational areas "Control Centre" and "Situation Centre". The control center is responsible for receiving and processing emergency calls in the entire area of responsibility of the Recklinghausen Police Headquarters and for forwarding and monitoring the resulting operations. The situation center handles all administrative matters in the control center area. Furthermore, operational information is processed and made available to the various departments as required.
The West police station includes the cities of Bottrop, Gladbeck, Marl, Haltern am See and Dorsten. The command center of the Police Inspectorate West is based in the city of Bottrop.
The East police station is responsible for the towns of Recklinghausen, Herten, Castrop-Rauxel, Datteln, Oer-Erkenschwick and Waltrop. The command center in the city of Castrop-Rauxel is located in this police inspection.
The 18th riot police unit is one of 18 units in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is assigned to the Recklinghausen police headquarters and is housed on the grounds of the police accommodation on Beisinger Weg in Recklinghausen.
The riot police unit is a specially trained unit. It supports the police authorities in dealing with special operational situations. Each unit consists of 123 officers. It is divided into three platoons, each with 38 officers and a nine-strong functional service.
If all available units of the 18 riot police units of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia are scheduled to be deployed on special occasions, the State Office for Central Police Services North Rhine-Westphalia (LZPD NRW) has the option of drawing on the forces of 18 alarm platoons throughout the state. The 18th alarm train of the Recklinghausen Police Headquarters is recruited from officers from the security service and other departments of the Recklinghausen Police Headquarters.
Whenever extremely keen detection skills are required, the police rely on the support of so-called service dogs. Their dogs' noses are more sensitive than any measuring device. They search for people, drugs, explosives, incendiary substances and banknotes. The service dog squadron of the Recklinghausen police headquarters is housed together with the riot police unit on the grounds of the police accommodation on Beisinger Weg in Recklinghausen.
