In addition to regular traffic checks, road accident prevention is an essential part of road safety work. For years, children and young people have been a key target group of our road safety work. It starts in kindergarten and then extends through elementary school to secondary school. There, for example, future drivers are made aware of the dangers of road traffic, such as excessive speed and distraction, with the "Crash Course NRW" program. The police also do not leave victims of traffic accidents alone in their distress and offer support from specially trained victim support officers.
The Traffic Directorate is based at the police headquarters in Recklinghausen. Other departments of the Traffic Directorate work from properties in Marl, Gladbeck, Herten and Castrop-Rauxel.
